Organization Description:

 

Founded in 1990, Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders in Philanthropy (AAPIP) is a national membership and advocacy organization dedicated to improving Asian American/Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities through philanthropy. AAPIP also seeks to advance traditional philanthropy by making it more inclusive, just, equitable, and accountable. AAPIP members include foundations, staff and trustees of grantmaking organizations, and nonprofit organizations in eight regional chapters in the United States. AAPIP engages AAPI communities and philanthropy to address unmet needs; serves as a resource for and about AAPI communities; supports and facilitates giving by and to AAPI communities; and incubates new ideas and approaches for social justice philanthropy.

 

Civic Engagement Fund:

The Civic Engagement Fund (CEF) is a capacity-building initiative designed to support Arab, Middle Eastern, Muslim, and South Asian (AMEMSA) nonprofit organizations through a blend of organizational support grants, technical assistance, and peer learning opportunities.  CEF is a strategic partnership between AAPIP and eight other philanthropic partners in the Bay Area. 

 

Summary:

The Associate Director of the Civic Engagement Fund for AMEMSA communities directly reports to the Director, Philanthropic Advocacy and leads and manages the planning, development and implementation of activities to meet the CEF  goals including but not limited to 1) creating a pooled fund to strengthen the capacity and effectiveness of community-based organizations serving AMEMSA communities 2) awarding grants from this fund 3) providing individual and group technical assistance and peer-learning opportunities to community-based organizations serving AMEMSA communities and, 4) creating a replicable capacity building model for increased collaboration between foundations, community based organizations, and intermediary organizations in California.

 

The Associate Director is also a member of the Philanthropic Advocacy Team which is responsible for contributing to organization wide philanthropic advocacy goals.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned

 

PROGRAM:

  • Develop, implement and maintain strategies and program activities to meet goals for the AMEMSA Civic Engagement Fund.

  • Develop, implement and maintain a pooled fund to meet program goals. 

  • Develop, implement and conduct an annual grantmaking process consistent with CEF goals. 

  • Develop and ensure effective delivery of individual and group technical assistance.

  • Create, facilitate and maintain a peer-learning network among funders, intermediary organizations, and community based organizations to share information.

  • Develop a replicable capacity building model for increased collaboration between foundations, community based organizations and intermediary organizations in California. 

  • Maintain and expand the Funders’ Collaborative to support organizations in other regions of California. 

  • Regularly report to and facilitate meetings of the CEF Advisory Committee.

  • Conduct program evaluation activities and develop and present recommendations for improvement to the Advisory Committee as appropriate. 

 

FUNDRAISING:

  • Create, implement and maintain a development strategy for the CEF in conjunction with AAPIP’s Director, Philanthropic Advocacy, and CEF Advisory Committee.

  • Effectively conduct development activities including but not limited to identifying funding sources, applying for funding, responding to funder questions, providing required reporting to funders.

 

FISCAL ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Develop resource plan (budget and human resources) to effectively and efficiently achieve program goals.

·         In conjunction with the Director, Philanthropic Advocacy, develop and monitor budget for the CEF.

 

COLLABORATIONS & NETWORKS:

  • Participate and/or lead key collaborations and networks aimed to advance the philanthropic advocacy goals of AAPIP broadly and the CEF specifically.

 

COMMUNICATIONS:

  • Develop, implement and maintain communications vehicles to ensure complete and timely information flow among key stakeholders (AAPIP, Advisory Committee, funders, grantees, and community organizations.)

  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of required reporting.

 

SUPERVISION:

  • Contract with and direct the work of external consultants as needed ensuring completion of deliverables within established timeframes and budget.

 

ADMINISTRATION:

·         Develop, implement, maintain, and ensure documentation of clear and complete Fund policies and procedures for administration, compliance and reporting purposes.

·         Ensure all CEF program activities are in compliance with applicable laws, regulations and standards.

  • Effectively liaison with Advisory Committee and AAPIP Executive Management as needed.

 

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

 

·         Demonstrated ability to manage programs as evidenced by a minimum of 3 years experience as a program officer or manager.  

·         Demonstrated ability to effectively achieve development and fundraising goals as evidenced by a minimum of 2 years experience. .

·         Demonstrated knowledge of issues affecting the AMEMSA community.

·         Strong working knowledge of relevant laws, regulations and standards as they relate to non-profit program management, grantmaking, and fundraising.  

·         Demonstrated ability to ensure that program activities are planned and implemented consistent with mission, vision and values of the organization.

·         Demonstrated ability to participate effectively and provide consistent, high quality leadership at all levels of the organization, including staff, Board and advisory committee meetings

·         Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other colleagues to ensure synergy between various parts of the organization, taking collective responsibility for staff morale and results assuring that the individual components are working in tandem to advance the success of the entire organization.

·         Demonstrated ability to develop and monitor program and project budgets

·         Demonstrated ability to understand and navigate the external political climate in order to advance the overarching goals of AAPIP.

·         Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing and to represent the organization to internal and external audiences including but not limited to executive management, funders, partners and community organizations.

·         Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities to conclusion.

·         Demonstrated ability to effectively resolve problems that balance multiple needs and interests.

·         Demonstrated ability to respond to changing and sometimes ambiguous situations.

Education/Experience:

 

·         Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four year college or university.

·         Minimum 2 years increasingly responsible experience as a program officer or program manager in a related field.

·         Minimum 2 years experience in a development or fundraising capacity.

·         Minimum 2 years experience in a program or development capacity focusing on issues affecting AMEMSA communities.
