Mumbai: The Hilal Committees in various parts of India based on reports in the respective states have announced that Ramadan will begin in India on Friday June 19, 2015.
"A meeting of the Ruyat-e-Hilal Committee, Imarat-e-Sharaiyah-Hind was held today in New Delhi. It was decided to announce that the moon of RAMZANUL MOBARAK has not been sighted", MUIZUDDIN AHMAD, Secretary of the Ruyat-e-Hilal Committee said in a statement.
"It is therefore declared that the 1st Ramzan falls on FRIDAY the 19th JUNE 2015", the statement said.
Hilal Committees in Mumbai, Lucknow, Patna, Kolkata, Guwahati have also announced that the new moon was not sighted today i.e. Shaban 29, 1436. Hence June 18 will be 30th Shaban and Ramadan in these areas will begin from Friday June 19, 2015.
"Weather in Hyderabad was by and large clear. But, the new moon could not be seen", a local reporter quoting a Hilal Committee member said while talking to ummid.com.
The task of the moon sighting committees to confirm the sighting of the crescent became difficult as weather in other parts of the country was cloudy, and clear sky eluded majority of the cities and townships.
Earlier different moon sighting committees or Hilal Committees, as they are popularly known as, including Markazi Rooyat Hila Committee Mumbai, Hilal Committee New Delhi, Hilal committees in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, Jamiat-e-Ulema Hind, Hilal committees in Assam, West Bengal, Gujarat, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka had made special appeals to the people to sight the new moon.
The Hijri date is the Islamic calendar which started in the moon year in which Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) immigrated from Makkah to Madinah. A new month in the Hijri calendar begins with sighting of the moon on 29th of every month. If the moon is not sighted on 29th, that month completes 30 days.
Meanwhile, clericsa in Kerala after receiving confirmed moon sighting reports in the state have announced to begin the holy fasting month from Thursday June 18, 2015.
Bhatkal in the neighboring state has also announced to begin the holy month of Ramadan from Thursday. The announcements were made relying on the moon sighting reports from Kerala, local media persons said while talking to ummid.com.
Saudi Arabia, UAE and other Gulf states have already announced that the Ramadan 2015 in these countries will begin from Thursday June 18, 2015.
Muslims in the Middle East, Europe and the US will be anxiously waiting for the announcement of advent of the holy month as majority of the Muslims in the Western countries follow Saudi Arabia’s Islamic Hijri calendar.
