condemning the state government’s decision to reinstate KP
Raghuvanshi as ATS Chief, Muslim leaders in Malegaon demanded from
Chief Minister Ashok Chavan to revoke his government’s decision.
“We have no
faith left in Raghuvanshi. The decision to reinstate him as ATS
Chief should be revoked forthwith”, said Maulana Ab Hameed Azhari.
He was speaking to ummid.com after addressing a rally organized on
Friday June 19 in the evening to condemn the government’s decision.
his appointment over the crucial post has endangered the
continuation of the painstaking investigation carried by slain ATS
Chief Hemant Karkare that had exposed the hitherto hidden face of the
terrorists, Maulana Azhari said, “By reinstating him to the
all important ATS Chief post the Government has only shown that it is
neither interested in justice to the innocents nor is
sincere in fighting the terrorism.”
KP Raghuvanshi already had the
additional charge of ATS Chief ever since Hemant Karkare died in
26/11 Mumbai terror attack allegedly executed by the Pakistani
terrorists. While the state government was looking for a suitable
substitute for the post, following a petition in the High Court, it
reinstated KP Raghuvanshi as ATS Chief upgrading his rank to Additional Director General.
Stating that earlier when Raghuvanshi was
the Chief of the ATS the real culprits were at large whereas the innocents
were nabbed, Maulana Azhari said, “After the breakthrough
into the investigations carried by Hemant Karkare, serious questions
are now being raised over the investigations into all previous blasts.”
“We fear that if Raghuvanshi remains as ATS Chief, the
investigation into Bhikku Chowk would be derailed and the other
people including the local link would never be exposed to the
world", he said.
In reply to a
question why they don’t give Raghuvanshi a chance and discuss the
matter with him when he himself is proposing for a meeting, Maulana
Azhari said that they had already done so on more than one occasion
in the past, separately as well as in the presence of the erstwhile
Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh. “But nothing concrete came out of
those meetings”, he said.
after taking the charge of office last week had proposed to the people of Malegaon to meet him in his office. “If anybody or people from
Malegaon have any problem they should come and meet me in my
office”, he has reportedly said while stating the Police do not
arrest anyone on the basis of one’s religion or to please anyone.
addressing the rally organized by All Sects Organisation of
Malegaon (Kul Jamaati Tanzeem) the speakers condemned the
government’s decision to restore KP Raghuvanshi to the post of State
ATS Chief and urged the government to reconsider its decision.
“Is the government hands in glove with
a section in the country who do not want justice to prevail and who
are up in the arms to destabilize the country?”, Maulana Husnain
asked while wondering over the manner in which KP Raghuvanshi has
been reinstated on the post.
Raghuvanshi as ATS Chief is not acceptable to us”, asserted the
speakers in the rally one after another.
KP Raghuvanshi was the ATS Chief when the blast occurred in Nanded
and fake beards and Muslim outfits were seized from the site,
Advocate Nehal Ansari said, “While the ATS was quick in applying
TADA and MACOCA on arrested Muslims, the culprits in Nanded blast
were applied with the sections that helped them get the release
order on bail.”
Meanwhile the Kul Jamaati Tanzeem
leaders received a shot in their arms when their demand to recall
Raghuvanshi from the post of ATS Chief saw an unexpected supporter in the
local MLA. In a communiqué read in the rally, Shaikh Rasheed-the Congress MLA from Malegaon backed the Kul
Jamaati Tanzeem's condemnation over the appointment of KP
Raghuvanshi as ATS Chief. Former Minister Nehal Ahmad and
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) President Yusuf Seth too joined the
chorus demanding from the government to reconsider its decision.
