Seven arrested for cattle slaughter

New Delhi: Seven people were arrested for illegally slaughtering cows and transporting around 680 kg of cattle meat, police said here Friday.

"Several incidents of illegal slaughtering of cattle in various parts of Delhi and National Capital Region were reported. A team was constituted that worked relentlessly and deployed sources in the areas to find the criminals involved in these incidents," said a senior police official.

On Wednesday, acting on a specific information, police laid a trap and arrested the seven. The accused have been identified as Abu-zar (32), Mohd. Rahis (33), Mohd. Zakir (38), Naushad (36), Kamil (28), Faisal (21) and Kaleem (32).

"Around 650 kg of cattle meat, a three-wheeler and one motorcycle used for transportation have been recovered from the accused and further investigation to nab their accomplices is on," said the police official.
