A total of 14.26 lakh students had appeared for the Class 10 exam held at 1,217 different centres in the state.

The Bihar School Examination Board was established for prescribing the course of studies for such secondary school examinations and for carrying out other duties which are considered necessary for this purpose as stated in the Rules and Regulations of the Board Act.

The board conducts annual secondary school examination in the months of February/March and supplementary school examination in the months of August/September in accordance with the curriculum prescribed by the state government.

This year's class 10 exams was marred by large scale cheating. In a bizarre case, dozens of people -- said to be family members of the students -- were seen climbing the walls of an exam centre and flinging answer sheets into various rooms where their wards were writing the exam in Vaishali district.

In Ara, Bhojpur's district headquarters, police had to resort to a baton charge to disperse people helping students to copy in the examination.

Last year, the Class 10 results were delcared on June 03.
