Hockey legend Mohammed Shahid dies at 56

Hockey legend Mohammed Shahid passed away after battling kidney and liver problems at a Gurgaon hospital on Wednesday. He was 56.

The legend was battling for life after a bout of jaundice and dengue made his condition worse.

Known for his artistic stickwork, Shahid was a member of the V Baskaran led Indian hockey team that won its last gold medal at the 1980 Moscow Olympics.

Shahid was also a part of the team that won silver at the Delhi Asiad in 1982 and bronze in the Seoul Asiad in 1986.

Earlier this month, he was airlifted from Varanasi and admitted to the Gurgaon hospital.
