Mumbai: Dr Mazhar Khan Dastagir Khan Mulla and Dr Salman Mohammad Tehran Shaikh are among ten super-specialists who cracked the MCh Neurosurgery exam conducted by Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) result of which was declared on September 01, 2018.
M.Ch. Neurosurgery is the Superspeciality course for post doctoral training in General Neurosurgery in India.
This is the first time in the history of Maharashtra that 02 Muslims have passed the prestigeous exam. This is also after the gap of 20 long years that a Muslim has figured in the list of the super-specialist doctors who cracked the MCh Neurosurgery exam.
Mumbai had till now only 03 Muslim Neurosurgeons. With the success of Dr Mazhar Khan and Dr Salman Shaikh the city will now have 05 Muslim Neurosurgeons.
Dr Mazhar Khan, son of Retired Judge Dastageer Khan Mulla (DU Mulla), has completed his super specialisation from Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital (Sion Hospital). Dr. Salman on the other hand completed the course at Bombay Institute of Medical Sciences.
Dr Mazhar Khan had completed MBBS from Sion Hospital Mumbai. Later on, he completed MS-General Surgery from MGM Medical College and MY Hosiptal Indore through AIPGME-2011.
Afterwards he worked as Assistant Professor in Surgery at Government Cancer Hospital Aurangabad. He was awarded Best Outgoing PG Surgery Resident Award for excellent treatment of communal riot victims of Indore Chandannagr riots.
Dr Mazhar is currently working as Senior Registrar in Neurosurgery Department of Sion Hospital, Mumbai.
On the other hand, Dr Salman Shaikh, son of Dr Mohammad Tehran Shaikh, had completed MBBS from Terna Medical College Nerul, Navi Mumbai. Later on he completed MS-General Surgery from Topiwala National Medical College and BYL Nair Charitable Hospital Mumbai before completing MCh Neurosurgery from Bombay Hospital in 2018.
