Hindu Mahasabha leader billed as 'Lady Godse' arrested

Her husband Ashok Pandey has also been taken into custody

Aligarh: Pooja Shakun Pandey, the Hindu Mahasabha leader, who was billed "Lady Godse" after a viral video showed her shooting at Mahatama Gandhi's effigy, is arrested. Her husband Ashok Pandey has also been taken into custody, police said.

The video of Puja Pandey shooting Gandhi's effigy and celebrating his assassination went viral on January 30 when the entire nation was mourning the 71st death anniversary of the great Indian leader.

The year 2019 is also the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and it was the theme of this year's Republic Day Parade. The 90-minute parade saw as many as 22 larger-than-life tableaux, each one giving a special tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.

The police had on January 31 filed a case against 13 persons seen in the video and had arrested 03 persons. The key accused, Pooja Shakun Pandey was however absconding.

In the shocking video that went viral on social media, Puja Shakun Pandey is seen shooting the effigy of Mahatma Gandhi amid cheers and slogan "Mahatma Nathuram Godse amar hai".

After she “shoots at” the effigy, a red-coloured liquid is seen flowing from the effigy and somebody is heard saying "is ka khoon bahut ganda tha".

Nathuram Godse, the assassin of Mahatama Gandhi, was a member of Hindu Mahasabha.

Hindu Mahasabha and othe extremist Hindu groups hates Mahatma Gandhi puting the blame of partition on him. They had also announced to celebrate 30th January as Shauraya Diwas.
