Final Year Exam Maharashtra Cancelled

Mumbai: In a major decision taken in the wake of Coronavirus epidemic, Maharashtra government Sunday cancelled the exams of Final Year students across the universities in the state.

Announcing this Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said final year students will be awarded average mark based on their past examination results.

"This is exteremly difficult to hold any exam in the present scenario. Hence it has been decided after the consultation I had with vice chancellors of different universities of the state Saturday to cancel the final year exams", Thackeray said in his address to the state on Sunday.

How final year students score will be calculated

Chief minister Uddhav Thackeray said the final year university students will be awarded an average of their marks in previous semesters.

"But the students will have the option to appear for exams when the situation improves if they are not satisfied with their score and want to improve it", he said.

Maharashtra government had earlier cancelled the 2020 university exams of 1st and 2nd students. It had decided to promote the 1st and 2nd year university students based on their internal assessment.

Following the cancellation of 1st and 2nd year exams, students of final year too were demanding the same relief saying to study under the Corona fear is difficult for them.

Online Session in schools from June 15

Thackeray also said that academic session in schools would commence Online on June 15 with physical schools reopening in remote areas of the state which lack connectivity.

“In remote areas, where there is no internet connectivity and coronavirus spread, schools should be reopened by implementing social distancing norms. In places where there is a problem in physically restarting schools, the option of online education must be used", Thackeray said.

There are a total of 20 universities in Maharashtra including Mumbai University, Savitribai Phule Pune University, Kolhapur University, North Maharashtra University Jalgaon, Marathwada University Aurangabad and others. Over eight lakh students were expected to appear for the final year exams which now stands cancelled.

Earlier, Union HRD Ministry too had announced cancellation of all univeristy exams 2020 of the 1st and 2nd year students in the country.
