Mumbai: The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) during the intervening night and early morning of January 22 conducted raids at five different locations in Mumbra, Thane and Aurangabad and arrested 09 Muslim youth for alleged terror links.
While four suspects were picked up from Aurangabad, five were arrested from Mumbra.
According to ATS officials, “certain chemicals, mobile phones, hard drives, acid bottles, sharp knives and SIM cards were recovered from the nine arrested.”
The ATS identified the arrested Muslim youth as Salman Khan, Fahad Shah, Zamen Kutepadi, Mohseen Khan, Mohammad Mazhar Shaikh, Taki Khan, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Zahid Shaikh and a 17-year-old.
ATS officials said three of the nine - Salman, Mohseen and Taki - are brothers, and were influenced by ISIS sympathisers and were given task to radicalise others to join ISIS.
The accused have been booked under Indian Penal Code’s Section 120 (B) (criminal conspiracy) and relevant provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Bombay Police Act, the official said.
The latest arrests of Muslim youth by the Maharashtra ATS came about a month after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested at least 10 people from Uttar Pradesh and National Capital New Delhi.
