After three years of continuous monitoring by the National Cricket Academy (NCA), 19-year-old Qazi Shamsuddoha of Nanded – the famous Marathwada city some 600 kms from here, has finally been selected for the Ranji Trophy Cricket tournament currently underway in Bangalore.

"Qazi Shamsuddoha, belonging to a middle-class family residing in Omar Colony – a Muslim dominated area of the city, is the first cricketer from Nanded who has been selected for the Ranji Trophy", family sources said while talking to ummid.com on phone.

Qazi Shamsuddoha , who has been included in the Maharashtra team as an all-rounder, played his first match for Maharashtra against Andhra Pradesh on November 29.

Playing the first class cricket for Maharashtra for the last five years, Qazi Shamsuddoha has an impressive record and a huge pile of runs and wickets to his credit.

"Playing for Under-20 competition last season, he scored a total of 435 runs and took 47 wickets in four matches. He also hit a century scoring 135 runs in one match", the family sources said.

Earlier, he had scored more than 500 runs and had taken 35 wickets in five matches while playing for the Under-16 tourney.

Playing for Ranji Trophy tourneys is important as the performance here is normally considered as a benchmark for selection to the national cricket team.

Muslims in Nanded comprise 30% of the total population. Qazi's selection to the Ranji cricket is being hailed by all and sundry. In fact, some local politicians are even demanding financial aid by the civic body for the proper training of Qazi Shamsuddoha.
