New Delhi/ Raipur (Chhattisgarh): The BJP Sunday took early leads as officials counted millions of votes in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Delhi, with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) making its mark in the capital.
With postal votes taken up first for counting, the Bharatiya Janata Party was far ahead of the Congress in Madhya Pradesh, which it has ruled for a decade, and Congress-administered Rajasthan.
In Madhya Pradesh, BJP candidates were leading all others in 101 constituencies. The Congress was leading in 47.
In neighbouring Chhattisgarh too, BJP candidates had forged ahead in 37 constituencies in comparison to 33 of the Congress.
In Congress-ruled Rajasthan, the BJP made spectacular gains, with its candidates on the winning track in 120 seats. The Congress was ahead in 33 seats.
In Delhi, the debutant AAP of Arvind Kejriwal was on the lead in twenty four places. The BJP was ahead in 33 seats. Congress candidates surged ahead in just nine seats.
Hundreds of officials Sunday morning began counting some 83 million votes polled in the four states in elections held in November and December.
