Uttar Pradesh to frame rules for slaughter houses in urban areas
Saturday July 6, 2013 0:22 AM, IANS

The Uttar Pradesh government Friday announced the setting up of a committee to frame rules and regulations for slaughter houses in urban areas.

The high-level committee -- constituted under the chairmanship of director, Urban Local Bodies -- will comprise commissioners of Agra, Kanpur and Lucknow, executive officials of Mau and Ferozabad and member secretary of the state Pollution Control Board.

The rules to be framed by this committee will be as per the provisions of Uttar Pradesh Nagar Palika Act, 1916, and the Uttar Pradesh Nagar Nigam Act, 1959.

The key points will be "identifying the places of slaughter houses, excluding slaughter houses from populated areas and defining the number of animals to be slaughtered as per the local requirement," an official told IANS.

The committee has been asked to send its proposal to the state government within one month.
