Mumbai: The Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) on Wedenesday shot a letter to Congress General Secretary Shakil Ahmed expressing surprise over his reported remark that the Indian Mujahideen is a terror outfit, "formed" to "avenge" the Gujarat riots.
"We are surprised to read your statement in newspapers that terror group "Indian Mujahideen" is the outcome of Gujarat riots", JIH General Secretary Nusrat Ali wrote in his letter dashed to Shakeel Ahmed.
"The statement war between Congress and BJP has harmed the image of the Muslim community. Muslims of the country, particularly its educated class feels that no organization by the name of "Indian Mujahideen" exists in the country", he said.
"Your statement tells that you admit that "Indian Mujahideen" exists. Your statement also tells that to take revenge of the Gujarat riots, Muslims established this terror group and it is the same "Indian Mujahideen" which is alleged by media and police for terror blasts that occur in the country at regular interval. Thus the allegations leveled by media and intelligence agencies and police against Muslims for terror blasts are true", he said.
"If there is any such group then why the government and intelligence agencies have not yet informed the people of the country about the offices and office bearers of the group?" he asked.
"Some people are also of the view that "Indian Mujahideen" is the creation of the government and its intelligence agencies themselves and they are using it to sully the image of the Muslims and make their character doubtful", he said.
JIH General Secretary also expressed hope that the Congress General Secretary while speaking on sensitive issues would keep from making statements that are not in the larger interests of the Muslim community.
In the past on seceral occasions also doubts were raised about the existence of the Indian Mujahideen. Recently, Chairman of Press Council of India Justice Katju had said the alleged terror outfit is the craetion of media.
