New Delhi: Vice President of India M. Hamid Ansari has deeply condoled the demise of Professor Obaid Siddiqi - one of the most eminent scientists of the country and an alumnus of Aligarh Muslim University.
In his condolence message, he said that Prof. Siddiqi was an outstanding teacher who taught in some of the most prestigious universities, in India and abroad, and inspired generations of students to pursue excellence.
"In his departure, we have lost a pioneer of scientific research and an institution builder whose absence will be felt for a long time to come", he said.
"I am deeply saddened at the untimely and tragic demise of Professor Obaid Siddiqi, National Research Professor at the National Centre for Biological Sciences, one of the most eminent scientists of our country and an alumnus of Aligarh Muslim University", he said.
Professor Siddiqi was acclaimed, nationally and globally, for his important contributions in the field of molecular biology which led to a better understanding of the subject.
He was an outstanding teacher who taught in some of the most prestigious universities, in India and abroad, and inspired generations of students to pursue excellence.
"In his departure, we have lost a pioneer of scientific research and an institution builder whose absence will be felt for a long time to come", Ansari said in his message.
Siddiqi (80) who was the founder director of National Research Professor at the National Centre for Biological Sciences and Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) died in Bangalore Friday and his last rites were performed Saturday.
