Sunday May 26, 2013 8:00 PM, RIA Novosti

The Turkmen capital of Ashgabat has entered the Guinness World Records for the highest number of white marble buildings in the city.

Guinness World Records chief editor Craig Glendale travelled to the former Soviet country to present the certificate Saturday to the mayor of Ashgabat.

The certificate names Ashgabat as the "most white-marble city" in the world for its 543 new buildings lined with white marble, covering a total area of 4.5 million square metres.

Earlier, the capital of Turkmenistan had at least four mentions in the Guinness World Records for the world's tallest flagpole (133 metres), largest fountain complex, largest architectural image of the star and the largest Ferris wheel in an enclosed architectural design.
