New Delhi: Indian Muslims' weekly magazine Radiance celebrated its golden jubilee recently at India Islamic Cultural Centre, which was attended by a large number of its readers and well-wishers.
A special issue of the magazine, containing the gist of its coverage on the various issues confronting the nation and the community since its inception, was released on the occasion.
Besides launching a new website (radianceweekly.in), a documentary CD on the 50-year journey of the magazine was also released.
Recognizing the services of its former Deputy Editor, Syed Ausaf Saied Vasfi, and some former journalists, the publishers honored them with mementos. Vasfi was conferred with Lifetime Achievement Award along with a citation. It was an emotional moment as Vasfi's association with Radiance in various capacities spanned five decades.
Speaking on the occasion, Syed Shahabuddin, former president of All India Muslim Majlis-e Mushawarat, said that over the years, Radiance has become the mouthpiece of the community.
"I have found Radiance to be more trustworthy than other newspapers and magazines that I get in the office and I read Radiance the most. The noteworthy point of Radiance is that it does not fuel the fire of sectarianism and communalism but rather it has followed the path of tolerance in its approach and contents", he said.
Shia leader Kalb-e-Sadiq stressed the need to build greater unity among Muslims by putting an end to all kinds of sects and differences.
Zafarul-Islam Khan, editor of The Milli Gazette, said despite all achievements, a lot more is required to be done by the community or existing Muslim media to make their voice heard.
Syed Jalaluddin Omari, president of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, said the remarkable and unique feature of Radiance is that it covers every issue in Islamic perspective.
The magazine's current editor Sikandar Azam presented vote of thanks.
