Godhra: An armed group of villagers, led by a sarpanch on Tuesday killed a poultry farm owner Ashrafbhai Yayman and injured two others at Sarangpura village about 10 km from here following a dispute over the clearing of a road leading to the poultry farm.
Ashrafbhai Yayman, who had started the poultry farm a year back along with his partner Maulvi Farid Dari, died on the spot after being attacked with sharp weapons around 7.30 pm on Tuesday, said eyewitnesses.
The injured, identified as Jamilbhai Dari and Noor Ahmed Dari, are Farid Dari's brothers. They are undergoing treatment at a Vadodara hospital.
"Everything was largely peaceful and there was no opposition to the poultry business from the villagers," The Indian Express quoted Ajabsinh Jadhav as saying.
He was the guard at the poultry farm. He added that trouble started on Tuesday.
"Ashraf bhai came to the village in the afternoon and called in a JCB machine (excavator) to clear the bushes that were blocking the approach road. Some local residents protested and damaged the machine," he said.
Ashraf and his partners tried to settle the matter peacefully, but they were attacked by a huge mob.
The three victims are all Ghanchi Muslims from Godhra while Sarangpura is a predominantly Hindu village. Heavy police arrangements have been deployed in Godhra following this incident.
