BJP bought burqas, topis to fake its Muslim support: Digvijay Singh
Tuesday September 24, 2013 10:55 PM, ummid.com News Network

Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh on Tuesday alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party ahead of its rally in Bhopal purchased 10,000 burqas from Indore to feign the support of the Muslim minority towards the opposition party at the rally.

Singh's allegation came a day before Bharatiya Janata Party's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi addresses a rally in Bhopal.

"In the entire country, it is being built up that the Bharatiya Janata Party has the support of the Muslim minority. ...Now, as proof, I have with me a bill which shows that 10,000 burqas have been bought from Indore. The same number of topis could not be found here, but were ordered from Lucknow. I will put that bill before you, as well," news agency ANI quoted Singh as saying.

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi will speak at the Karyakarta Mahakumbh in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, on September 25 as part of his party's election campaign in the lead-up to the 2014 general elections.

Ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP is trying hard to garner the support from the Muslim community. To show that the party has some support base in the Muslim community, it in fact directed its cadres to come to the party rallies wearing burqas and topis.

However, Muslims are opposing the BJP tooth and nail ever since it declared Narendra Modi as its prime ministerial candidate. Narendra Modi is accused of master-minding the Gujarat riots in 2002. More than 2,500 people, mostly Muslims, were killed in this riot.

He is also accused of ordering fake police killings.

The United States and some other countries denied Modi visa due to his complexity in the Gujarat riots.
