Thursday August 14, 2014 11:30 PM, IANS

The HRD ministry Thursday hiked the stipend for student apprentices by 40 percent, a statement said.

"In an effort to improve employability, students are provided an opportunity to earn while they train as apprentices. The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has announced a 40 percent increase in stipend for apprentices, under the Apprentices Act 1961," a statement from the ministry said.

The last revision was in 2011.

Every year, around one lakh students undergo apprenticeship across 10,000 companies in India. The duration of this training is one year for the students who have completed either diploma or degree courses in technical education.
