Malegaon: Haji Mohd Ibrahim Mohd Yaseen, son of a 'Muslim Revert', and Haji Shaikh Yunus Isa Wednesday became Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Malegaon, a Muslim dominated city in North Maharashtra.

Haji Mohd Ibrahim defeated Bulund Iqbal of Janata Dal (Secular) whereas Haji Shaikh Yunus Isa defeated Sunil Aba Gaekwad in the election held in the Malegaon Municipal Corporation meeting hall today morning.
Haji Ibrahim, a Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) corporator who contested the election forming a front 'Teesri Agahdi' of 24 corporators got a total of 46 votes. His rival Bulund Iqbal of Janata Dal (Secular) could get just 32 votes.
Those who voted for Ibrahim Haji incldue 12 corporators of Shiv Sena and 10 of the 11 corporators of the Malegaon Shaher Vikas Aghadi.
Abdul Malik Shaikh Yunus Isa, the 11th corporator was part of the Malegaon Shaher Vikas Aghad, walked out from the house before voting saying he is from the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) and cannot vote for a candidate who is backed by the Shiv Sena. Abdul Malik, who won the corporation election as NCP candidate, joined the MIM before the 2014 state election and also contested the election on the party ticket.
Bulund Iqbal of the Janata Dal (S) was backed by 23 corporators of the Congress and 05 corporators of the Malegaon Vikas Aghadi besides 04 corporators of his own party.
Shagufta Nasreen of the Congress also voted for Bulund Iqbal. But her vote was disqualified by returning officer Sonali Pokshe following the order by the Bombay High Court.
The victory of Haji Ibrahim, who is the son of a Revert Muslim, Haji Mohd Yaseen, in the Malegaon mayoral election came two days after India is rocked by the news that RSS and few other right wing Hindu outfits are luring poor Muslims to convert to Hinduism.
Haji Mohd Yaseen, father of Haji Ibrahim, the newly elected mayor of Malegaon, had migrated to Malegaon from Rajasthan. He later reverted to Islam with his entire family.
In the Deputy Mayor election, Haji Shaikh Yunus Isa of the Malegaon Shaher Vikas Aghad bagged 34 votes and deftead Sunil Aba Gaekwad of Malegaon Vikas Aghadi, who got 32 votes.
12 corporaors of the Shiv Sena, who voted in favour of Haji Ibrahim in the mayor election, and Abdul Malik of the MIM abstained from voting.
Shiv-Sena corporator Dusane after the voting said the party abstained from voting as Shaikh Yunus Isa is the father of Abdul Malik of MIM, and the Sena can not support him the 'Muslim Communal Party'.
