Sunday February 23, 2014 7:16 PM, IANS

TRS chief K. Chandrasekhara Rao met Congress president Sonia Gandhi in here and thanked her for formation of separate Telangana state.

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leader, accompanied by his family members, met Sonia Gandhi. Later, he told reporters that Telangana state became reality because of the Congress president.

KCR, as the TRS chief is popularly known among his supporters, said politics was not discussed during the meeting. He said Gandhi told him that party general secretary Digvijaya Singh, who is the in charge of Andhra Pradesh, would discuss political issues with him.

The meeting, the first after parliament last week passed the bill for creation of Telangana state, took place amid reports that Gandhi and KCR would be discussing TRS' merger with Congress.

The TRS chief had said in the past that he would merge TRS with Congress, if the latter carves out a Telangana state.

KCR said he submitted to Gandhi a note on certain issues related to Telangana and she promised to forward the same to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

The TRS leader, who is camping in Delhi for last three weeks, said he would also meet the prime minister and President Pranab Mukherjee to thank them.

The TRS leader was accompanied by his son K. Tarakarama Rao, daughter Kavitha, nephew Harish Rao and other family members.

Tarakarama Rao and Harish Rao are members of the Andhra Pradesh assembly while Kavitha heads a cultural organisation.
