Homosexuality is as old as mankind. Despite the teachings of all known religions and scriptures that state clearly that homosexuality is an aberration, this phenomenon has existed in all societies from ancient times. Torah, Bible, Quran, Geeta and other religious scriptures have banned such behavior from the early days of civilization. In the 20th century as liberal attitudes towards sexual mores became popular and acceptable in the Western society, homosexuality still continued to be unacceptable. However in the big cities in Europe and America, starting about 50 years ago, one could find a few restaurants and social clubs for men and women, where the homosexual people gathered to meet same-sex partners. In the big metropolitan cities of London, Paris, New York, San Francisco gathering places for homosexuals existed legally starting in the 1950s.
In North America and Europe homosexuals started becoming assertive in making others accept the freedom to practice homosexuality in public starting in the 1960s – a period when the sexual revolution swept through north America, and having sexual relations outside marriage started to be acceptable in the Western society. Yet, in the western society, marriage remained a respected institution between a man and a woman. However, as the 21st century dawned, homosexuals in America gained much say in the mainstream media and the political system to the extent that they started demanding that they should be allowed to marry in public, just like heterosexual people, and be given all other rights of married couples like inheritance of property, adopting children, being beneficiaries of their partners' assets etc.
In America homosexual social groups and clubs formed political and lobbying pressure groups and started demanding that top political leaders publicly endorse same-sex marriage as an institution, just like marriage between a man and a woman. Another factor that has led to the growth and acceptance of this phenomenon in the western society is the spread of irreligiosity among Americans and Europeans. Thus the clear guidance from religious scriptures declaring homosexuality as an aberration and sin is being ignored.
For sure the Christian and Jewish religious leaders continue to speak against the same- sex marriage phenomenon. But unfortunately the moguls of major media, entertainment industry, television industry, the movies, and the businesses that cater to them, are propagating same-sex marriages and their celebration in public as a basic human right. If one says that homosexuality should be tolerated but that accepting same-sex marriage is ultra-liberalism gone wild, they are shouted down as intolerant people who deny others their basic human rights. Yet an overwhelming majority of American people strongly oppose the phenomenon of same-sex marriage.
In most states in the US, laws forbid same-sex marriage. But the strong and well-funded homosexual lobby with assistance from some Democratic Party politicians is putting huge pressure to overturn those laws.
In the US political system the Republican Party people and their friends have continued to oppose same sex marriage and define marriage as an institution between a man and a woman. Republican Party is more religion oriented that the Democratic party where many are irreligious. The Democratic Party people have gone overboard in heralding same sex marriage phenomenon as the liberation of a segment of mankind. While most homosexuals are found among the White race in America, and the Black people in general oppose it as an aberration, the political supporters of same-sex marriage compare its non-acceptance to slavery that prevailed in America for 300 years.
The advocates for homosexuals, called gay for men and lesbian for women, have become overly aggressive and are putting tremendous social, economic, political pressure on all segments of society in US. They have formed voting and fundraising banks and through those lobbies they exert pressure on the politicians and the electoral politics. That has resulted in several top Democratic Party politicians in US, including US President Obama and former President Bill Clinton endorsing same-sex marriage in the last two years, much to the consternation of a majority of American citizens.
Some instances are strange indeed. In the American state of Maryland, the state governor, O'Malley of the Democratic Party, who happens to be a Catholic, endorsed same-sex marriage a year ago. On that occasion the archbishop of Baltimore wrote an open letter to O'Malley saying that he had baptized O'Malley's children in his church that O'Malley attends, and he is unable to understand how O'Malley can endorse same-sex marriage. Clearly, O'Malley's endorsement of same-sex marriage was the result of much political lobbying and pressure from the homosexual lobbies.
Lately the homosexual lobby has pressured even the newly anointed Pope Francis to such an extent that he has stated that whether homosexuality is a sin or not is for God to decide and he cannot equivocally say that it is sin.
Also recently when President Putin of Russia made statements saying that homosexuality is an aberration, the American media supported by President Obama, criticized President Putin is an intolerant person and a violator of human rights. They even muscled the American Winter Olympics Committee and tried to have US boycott the February winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. However they were not successful. Finally Putin made a courageous statement asking the homosexual visitors to Russia to not spread this aberration among the youth of Russia.
Much economic, scientific, literary, cultural and human progress has been made in US since the 1950s. Yet, wide-spread irreligiosity and the trend of ultra-liberal sexual mores has caused much harm to the social and moal stability of society and the family structure in America the last half century. Now the scourge of homosexuality becoming acceptable to the extent of public celebration of same-sex marriages will add another destructive dimension to the American society.
