'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' launched at AMU, MANU

Joining the entire country, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANU) Thursday launched Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ambitious program the clean India campaign named as 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' in the respective campuses.

AMU VC Lt. Gen. Shah today launched the ambitious Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in the Aligarh Muslim University and also inaugurated an exhibition of letters, books and photographs of Mahatma Gandhi at the Maulana Azad Library.

Addressing a commemorative meeting organized at the Cultural Hall of Maulana Azad Library, the Vice Chancellor urged the people to propagate the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi to promote tolerance and a sense of peaceful coexistence.

He said that our school children should be educated on secular lines and utmost care be taken not to let the minds of our children polluted.

Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah announced that AMU would provide help to create modern Sir Syed Public Schools on the pattern of the Delhi Public School.

He said that the University has decided to establish a school at Jaula village in Muzaffarnagar district on a nine bigha land, which the local people have willingly agreed to donate for the purpose.

Lt. Gen. Shah said that the University has received commitment of donation of more than Rs. 1.5 Crore from AMU alumni and other social organizations.

He said that the estimated cost of construction will be around Rs. 2 Crore.

He made it clear that the Aligarh Muslim University will contribute Rs. 51 Lakh which was collected by its staff and students for riot victims of Muzaffarnagar.

The Vice Chancellor Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah also administered a pledge "to preserve and strengthen the freedom and integrity of the nation." He urged the people to resolve, "I shall never resort to violence and that all differences and disputes relating to religion, language, region or other political or economic grievances should be settled by peaceful and constitutional means".

Likewise at Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANU), "Swachh Bharath – Swasth Bharat" a "Clean India Campaign" was launched in the campus as part of national drive.

Prof. S.M. Rahmatullah Registrar, administered cleanliness pledge at the inauguration of "Clean India Campaign" to a large number of students, teachers and staff who participated in the campaign.
