Hyderabad: Hyderabad MP and President of Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Asaduddin Owaisi accused the Hindutva elements to be behind the contrversial poster that surfaced on Twitter September 01 with a concocted statement attributed to him.
Immidiately after the controversial poster started doing the rounds on the internet, Asaduddin Owaisi, in a series of tweets, denied making any such statement, calling it "nonsense".
"It is the handiwork of the Hindutva forces", Asaduddin Owaisi is quoted as saying by the local media.
The poster had attributed a remark to the Hyderabad MP calling upon Indian Muslims to join Pakistan army in the event of an Indian attack against the country.
Owaisi had also threatened to file a defamation case against The Kashmir Observer, a Srinagar based daily, for carrying the report based on the controversial poster.
"My lawyer will send legal notice to the paper. If they apologize, it is fine; if not I will file a defamation suit against them," he said in a message on micro blogging site Twitter.
The daily later regretted publishing the news saying it actually poured into its news-hub from Twitter, the micro-blogging website.
"The news item poured into our news hub from Twitter, the micro-blogging website. Someone had uploaded a poster with some seditious material and a picture of Owaisi. We used it because it had already triggered an outrage, but of course we should have verified its veracity from Mr. Owaisi; sometimes we fall prey to the online pranks", Editor News, Kashmir Observer said in a report published by the daily.
"Now that the poster turns out to be false and a bid to defame an elected MP, we regret the discomfort this news item has caused to Mr. Owaisi and his supporters," he added.
The All India Muslim Majlis-e Mushawarat, the apex body of Indian Muslim organizations, in its response has accused BJP of creating "such baseless and concocted" material in order to "divide the nation on religious lines."
