Lalu Prasad, Abu Asim Azmi to attend All India Milli Council's Ahmedabad convention

Ahmedabad: The All India Milli Council (AIMC), a non-political organisation with its headquarters in Delhi, is holding its 17th national convention here in Ahmedabad on December 19 and 20 to discuss issues pertaining to education, economic and political backwardness of the community and devising means for their upliftment with a view to bringing them in national mainstream.

Rashtrya Janat Dal (RJD) Cheif Lalu Prasad Yadav and Samajwadi Party (SP) Maharashtra President and Mumbai MLA ­ Abu Asim Azmi, Former Deputy Speaker in Rajya Sabha and Ex-Union Minister K. Rehman Khan are set to attend the two-day national convention.

Lalu Prasad Yadav is also likely to attend the public meeting of Muslims to be held on the sidelines of the convention. Fresh from defeating the BJP in Bihar. Lalu Yadav will attend the All India Mili Council (AIMC) in Prime Minister Modi's bastion Gujarat on December 19.

It will be Lalu Prasad Yadav's first visit to Ahmedabad in a decade. Lalu Prasad last visited the city during his tenure as railway minister in the UPA government. He was invited by the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) ­ Ahmedabad to deliver a lecture on his achievements as the Railway Minister.

"Around 50,000 people from the minority community will take part in the convention. The convention will be held at Morarji Chowk in the Bapunagar area of Ahmedabad", Mufti Rizwan Tarapuri, convener of the event and president of AIMC, said.

The convention will also discuss issues pertaining to the security of the community arising out of the Dadri and other incidents, silence of the 'secular' parties that have been using the community as a mere vote-bank without giving anything in exchange to the community.

Local congress MLA Gyasuddin Sheikh, president of the reception committee of the public meeting, said that the public meeting will be a show of strength of Muslims.

"This will be the first huge and mega rally of Muslims after the 2002 Gujarat riots", he said.
