Malegaon:
The ‘Maha Maran Barat’ – fast-unto-death by ten Janata Dal (Secular) activists against telecom company Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd, Water Grace Private Ltd and eight other corruption related cases in Malegaon Municipal Corporation Friday enters its 5th day.

On Thursday – the 4th day of their protest, health condition of Abdur Rehman and Mohammad Muslim Dhande worsened. Both of them however refused to take medical aid, and continued their protest in front of the main gate of the civic body along with fellow party workers.

Mohammad Zahid, another protester was shifted to hospital by the local police after his health deteriorated early on Tuesday.

Incidentally, Thursday December 17, 2015 is celebrated as the day when the Malegaon Municipal Council became a corporation. Special general body meeting was called and the civic building was lit up to commemorate the day.

The Janata Dal (S) activists however marked the day with a huge black flag written with ‘17/12/2015… Corporation ki saalgirah ka chiraga…. Shaher mein bharshtachar ka andhera’ in bold.

The Municipal commissioner along with other senior officers had held three rounds of meeting with the protesters in the past four days. But, the two sides could not agree on a mutually acceptable solution.

Ten Janata Dal (Secular) activists led by party general secretary Mustaqeem Dignity are on fast-unto-death since Monday December 14, 2015 demanding cancellation of the agreements the Malegaon Municipal Corporation (MMC) has signed with Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd and Water Grace Private Ltd, and a thorough probe into eight other corruption related cases.

“The Malegaon Municipal Corporation (MMC) has leased 75 sites in the city limit to Reliance Jio Infocomm on a meager Rs.137/- per month per site rent. Some powerful corporators belonging to the Congress party are behind this lease agreement. We are demanding from the Municipal Commissioner to cancel this deal which has incurred a huge financial loss to the civic body”, Mustaqeem Dignity said while talking to ummid.com.

Mustaqeem Dignity also alleged that the Water Grace Private Ltd – the company responsible for collecting and dumping city waste, is neither fulfilling the terms mentioned in the contract nor doing its job as per the agreement.

“Yet, 50-60 lakh rupees are being released to the company every month. Why? Because the released fund is shared by the ruling NCP, Teesra Mahaz and the Congress party leaders”, he alleged.

Mustaqeem also accused that some of the Congress corporators have misused their positions to lease out the civic body properties and shopping centres in prime areas of the city to their kin on throw away rentals.

“Our demand to the municipal commissioner is to cancel all these lease agreements, call fresh tenders and complete the entire procedure transparently and as per law”, he said.
