Lucknow: Accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of being infatuated with his own publicity, RLD chief Ajit Singh today said he often gives "contradictory figures" in his statement without "knowing the facts".

"During his rally in Saharanpur, Modi said that only Rs 700 crore cane dues of farmers were pending but the news said that it was actually Rs 5,000 crore," he told reporters here.

Singh alleged that Modi does not have any idea about figures and questioned how will he ensure welfare of farmers, according to news agency PTI.

"Modi in his Independence Day speech said that 99 per cent of the farmers dues have been paid. He only likes publicity. His poll promises have turned into gimmicks," he said.

The RLD chief said corruption, hooliganism and crime were at its peak in Uttar Pradesh, a fact, he claimed, had been accepted by SP Supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and cabinet minister Shivpal Singh Yadav.

"The question is, who is responsible for the situation? In reality no one intends to improve the it," he said.

The former Union Minister alleged that floods occurred in the state due to corruption as funds allocated for maintenance of check dams were "embezzled" by the persons concerned.
