Malegaon: With hundreds of thousands of Muslims celebrating Eid ul-Fitr across India on Thursday, Muhammadiya Eid-gah in Malegaon had a distinction as here hundreds of women worshippers too joined the annual event with their male counterparts and offered Special Eid prayers with them.
Muhammadiya Eid-gah is run and managed by Jamiat Ahle Hadees Malegaon, North Maharashtra. The Eid-gah ground is divided into two sections. One is reserved for men, and the other part, behind the male section, is where special provision is made for women worshippers to offer Namaaz.
"We are offering Eid prayers here since more than three decades. Ever since the first Eid prayer here, Jamiat Ahle Hadees has made special arrangement for women worshippers", Fazlur Rahman Muhammadi, PS to Jamiat Ahle Hadees Maharshtra President, said while talking to ummid.com.
"A large number of women worshippers from different parts of the city gather here two times in a year and offer Eid ul-Fitr and Eid ul-Adha prayers", he added.
Besides common Eid-gah, Jamiat Ahle Hadees also has over half a dozen mosques in Malegaon with first floor reserved for women worshippers.
"Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) has given permission to women and said they can offer Namaaz in mosques like their male counterparts behind a single Imam. It is following this tradition that Jamiat Ahle Hadees builds mosque with suitable arrangements for women", Fazlur Rahman said.
Interestingly, Jamiat Ahle Hadees is known for its strong stand vis-a-vis rights of Muslim women. The Jamiat is also of the view that triple talaq the way it is practiced in India is un-Islamic.
