Mumbai: HMD Global – the Finnish company that owns the rights to manufacture Nokia-branded smartphones – is closer to launch its most expensive device till date. Rumours have been going back and forth over HMD Global’s upcoming flagship smartphone.
It could be either the Nokia 8 or the Nokia 9. However, according to German website WinFuture, HMD Global’s next-generation phone is the Nokia 8 with the model number TA-1004, reports said.
According to other reports, the much awaited Nokia 8 smartphone will be coming with vertical dual camera setup and will use Carl Zeiss optics, some reports leaked ahead of the mega launch reportedly on July 31 said.
Tipster extraordinaire Evan Blass (aka @evleaks) has posted a press render of the Nokia 8 flagship showing the device from the front and back.
A Blue colour variant is seen sporting a metal body and a vertical dual camera setup at the back. The lenses are Zeiss branded, making this the first smartphone to be leaked with this after the announcement of HMD Global and Zeiss partnership earlier this month.
There’s a Home Button in the front with hardware capacitive keys on either side for navigation. The volume and power keys both are seen situated on the right edge of the device, while the 3.5mm audio jack is seen sitting on the top edge.
The Nokia 8, the first Android phones designed under the Nokia name, will run on Android 7.1 Nougat OS and sport a 5.3-inch QHD display.
The design is classic Nokia: simple front, although a front sporting the kind of thick bezels that are rapidly going out of style. The back is some kind of colored finish, likely using the same unibody aluminum design found on Nokia’s midrange phones. Blass says it will come in blue, steel, gold/blue and gold/copper.
The Nokia 8 is also expected to feature a 5.3-inch display (2560 x 1440), a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB or 6GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, and dual-SIM models.
Two 13-megapixel rear lenses from Carl Zeiss are a possibility, and a 13-megapixel front camera is expected as well. The dimensions are tipped to be at 151.55x73.7mm.
Four colour schemes are currently planned for the Nokia 8 – Blue, Steel, Gold/Blue and Gold/Copper. A Scandinavian retailer has allegedly claimed the phone will go on sale on July 31, and with a price tag of €589 ( or approx Rs 43,415). In other countries, however, the price will be slightly lower. For comparison, the iPhone 7 costs Rs 47,699, and the Galaxy S8 sells for Rs 57,900.
