Malegaon: President of Malegaon Congress Committee and two-time MLA Shaikh Rasheed, who was projected as the Congress party's mayoral candidate, has won the Malegaon Municipal Corporation (MMC) elections, officials announced after counting of votes ended Friday afternoon.
Former Mayor and Shaikh Rasheed's wife Tahera Shaikh also figures in the list of winners released by Presiding officer and MMC Commissioner Ravendra Jagtap.
Shaikh Rasheed and Tahera Shaikh both had contested from Ward no. 20.
While Shaikh Rasheed defeated former MLA and AIMIM Malegaon president Malik Yunus Isa, Tahera Shaikh won the election against Sahreefa B Shaikh Ameen of NCP.
Other notable winners from the Congress party are Saleem Anwar, Pappu Announcer, Shabnam Shaikh Saleem, Raziya Shaikh Ismael, Zafarullah Mehmood, Aslam Ansari, Mohd Sultan Love and Salma Syed Muslim.
Overall, the Congress has won 28 seats, NCP+JD (S) alliance won 27 seats, Shiv Sena won 13 seats, BJP 09 and the AIMIM won 07 seats.

05:45 pm Sitting Corporator and President of Janata Dal (S) Bulund Iqbal and his sister Shane Hind have won the Malegaon Municipal Corporation MMC 2017 elections, election officials announced after counting of votes ended in the city Friday afternoon.
The result is important for Bulund Iqbal and Shane Hind, kin of former minister and senior socialts leader Saathi Nehal Ahmed, because they contested the 2017 MMC elections for the first time after the death of their father.
Janata Dal (S) had formed an alliance with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) led by former MLA Mufti Mohammad Ismael.
Bulund Iqbal won from Ward no 12 along with the entire panel of the NCP-JD(S) in the ward whereas Shane Hind won from Ward No 15. Here again the alliance all four seats of the panel.
Other notable winners from the NCP-JD (S) alliance are Ejaz Baig and his wife Yasmeen Baig, Ayaz Halchal, Amantaullah Peer Mohammad, Nabi Ahmed, Ateeque Kamal, Dr Shafeeque Ansari, Abdul Baqi, Tanveer Zulfiqar, Sajeda Yaqoob abd Shabana Saleem.

In a major setback for the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) in Malegaon its local president and former mayor of Malegaon Abdul Malik Yunus Isa lost the MMC 2017 elctions, though the party was able to open its account in the civic body winning 07 seats, according to the result announced by the election officials Friday.
Malik has contested the MMC 2017 elections from two wards. He lost the elections in both th wards.
In Ward No. 17, Malik has been defeated by Dr Shafeeq of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). Dr Shafeeque is Director of Janata Co-Op Bank and a renowned medical practioner of the area.
In Ward No. 20, Malik contested the election against Congress president Shaikh Rasheed. Shaikh Rasheed, the mayoral candidate of the Congress, won by a huge margin in this ward.
The AIMIM, contesting the election for the first time, has however won 07 seats.
Interestingly, Malik's father Yunus Isa and his two brothers Khalid Pervez and Majid Yunus Isa had also contested the Malegaon civic elections and they have all won the elections.
If Malik's unexpected defeat is surprising, equally surprising is the victory of his brother Khalid Pervez. Khalid Pervez defeated Haji Khalid, son of Congress President Shaikh Rashid, in one of the mots expensive elections of the city.

Haji Mohd Yaseen, father of Haji Ibrahim, the newly elected mayor of Malegaon, had migrated to Malegaon from Rajasthan. He later reverted to Islam with his entire family.
In another unexpected result, AIMIM Malegaon president and former Mayor Abdul Malik Yunus Isa has also lost the election from Ward no. 17.
Malik Yunus Isa had also contest from Ward No 20 against Congress president Shaikh Rasheed. He lost in Ward No 20 as well.
12:15 pm The Congress and NCP-JD(S) alliance are in neck-and-neck battle to capture power at the 84-member Malegaon Municipal Corporation (MMC) whereas the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) which fielded a large number of Muslims for the first time is facing a humiliating defeat.
According the trends available at 12:15 pm, the NCP-JD(S) alliance and the Congress both are leading on as many as 26 seats each.
The BJP is leading on just 03 seats, far behind of its rival Shiv Sena which is leading on 10 seats.
The BJP has claimed to defeat Shiv Sena and win all 20 seats in the Hindu dominated areas of Malegaon and also claimed to open account in the Muslim dominated areas of the city where it had fielded 36 candidates including 27 Muslims.
But while it is leading on just 03 seats in the Hindu area, none of its candidates in the Muslim areas are in a position to win the election.

11:30 am The NCP-JD(S) alliance is set to emerge as the single largest group in Malegaon Muncipal Corporation (MMC), surging comfortably ahead of the key rival Congress.
According to the trends at 11:15 am, the NCPJD(S) candidates are ahead on 24 seats whereas Congress is struggling at 14.
The AIMIM is leading on 06 seats, the Shiv Sena on 07 and BJP on 01.

In Malegaon, the main parties in the fray are the Congress, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) - Janata Dal (S) alliance, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), Shiv Sena, Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), Samajwadi Party (SP) and a large number of independents.
Malegaon has a total of 21 wards represented each by 04 candidates. The current mayor is Ibrahim Seth belonging to the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).
The Congress had emerged as the single largest partyy winning 26 seats in the 2012 elections. The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) won 08 seats, Teesra Mahaz 19, Shiv Sena 11, Bhartia Janata Party (BJP) NONE, MNS 02 and others including independets were 11.
Teesra Mahaz led by former MLA Mufti Ismael later joined the NCP. But, the NCP was split and a faction led by former Mayor Abdul Malik Yunus Isa joined the AIMIM.
