NEET 2019: Ever since Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar confirmed that National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) will be held twice a year, it is widely speculated that National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct NEET in December 2018.
However, reliable sources have rubbished these reports and said as announced by Union Minister Javadekar the National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2019 in the month of February and May, not in December 2018.
Till 2018, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) was responsible for conducting all competitive exams, including NEET and JEE - two high profile Entrance Exams conducted for admission to First Year Medical/Dental and Engineering courses. However, the Modi government replaced the CBSE with National Testing Agency (NTA) from 2019.
Now, NTA will conduct all competitive exams including NEET and JEE Mains. It was also announced that from 2019 onwards both the exams will be held only in Online Mode.
“The National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct NEET and JEE Main from this year. The same student can take the exam both times a year and the best score will be counted,” Javadeker said adding that all examinations under the National Testing Agency (NTA) will be computer-based.
“Computer centres will be set up where students with no access to computers can practise from August-end or September", he said.
According to the tentative schedule, JEE (Main) will be held in January 2019 and April 2019. On the other hand, NEET (UG) will take place in February 2019 and May 2019 and UGC-NET will be held in December 2018.
Sources said that the government will issue the detailed notification for NEET 2019 in the month of September this year whereas Online Application for NEET 2019 February exam will start from October 01, 2018. Last date to apply for NEET February 2019 will be October 31, 2018.
Correction Window will open in 1st week of November 2018. NEET February 2019 Admit Card will be released in 1st week of January 2019 whereas the first National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) of the year 2019 will be held from February 03 to February 17, 2019, according to the NEET 2019 Tentative Schedule.
NEET February 2019 Answer Keys will be released within a week after the test and NEET February 2019 result will be declared in 1st week of March. UG NEET 2019 Admission counseling based on NEET February score will start in 2nd week of June, 2019.
Sources also said that the government will release the detailed notification and start Online Application for NEET 2019 May exam in 2nd week of March 2019. The Last date to apply for NEET May 2019 will be in 2nd week of April, 2019.
Correction Window will open in 3rd week of April 2019. NEET February 2019 Admit Card will be released in 1st week of May 2019 whereas the second National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) of the year 2019 will be held from 12th May to 26th May 2019, according to the NEET 2019 Tentative Schedule.
NEET May 2019 Answer Keys will be released within a week after the test and NEET May 2019 result will be declared in 1st week of June 2019. UG NEET 2019 Admission counseling based on NEET 2019 score will start in 2nd week of June, 2019.
How will this initiative by HRD Ministry benefit students
A large number of students, every year, attend these NEET and JEE exams in the hope to get through the top medical and engineering colleges of India. Still most of them are not able to make through it, as one of the major reasons being the clash of dates. Yes! April and May is time when all the boards conduct their final examinations. And many a times it happens that the entrance examination and the board examination fall on a same date, creating a confusion and chaos among the students.
But this initiative will eliminate this problem forever, as there will be two entrance examinations conducted, so that students can give their best and get through best colleges in their own respective fields.
Major Advantage of conducting exams twice a year
Already true to almost everyone’s knowledge, every year a large group of students take a drop, to give a try in the upcoming entrance, and fulfil that desire, which they could not achieve on the present stage. This “twice a year” initiative will help the entire student community who, unwillingly choose to drop a year and prepare further in a better way for the same. It will ultimately save the year they planned to drop.
Relief to CBSE
NEET and JEE Main both the examinations for the medical and engineering entrances were conducted by Central Board of Secondary Examinations (CBSE). But this year onwards, NTA will be overtaking CBSE, and it will be responsible for conducting all the entrance examinations, it will lessen the burden over CBSE, giving it a relief.
They had conveyed to the HRD Ministry about the massive burden due to these. Around 50 lakh students appear for seven different entrance examinations including GATE and CMAT, which are held by CBSE, AICTE, IIMs and IITs.
National Testing Agency (NTA)
This is an entirely independent body that is responsible for conducting all the entrance examinations for higher educations on the lines of education in United States.
The main motive behind the formation of NTA was to set up an entirely independent body that will only look after the proper and fair means to conduct the medical and engineering entrance examinations. Also the foundation of the same was confirmed in the Union budget 2018 by Arun Jaitley.
As all the test will be online now, the students will be given proper mock test to attend those online exams. This is a great opportunity or it could be said as a second chance to those students who were not able to attend the exam due to the board examination, and also for those who scored less marks. Many of them will not have to waste an additional year.
