Eid al Adha Moon 2018 India, Pakistan and Bangladesh Live Updates: The new moon pronouncing the start of the month of Dhul Hijjah is sighted today i.e. Sunday August 12, 2018 corresponding to 29th of Dhulka'edah 1439 AH. Accordingly, Eid al Adha will be celebrated in India on Wednesday August 22, 2018, Ruyat-e-Hilal Committee Imarate Shariah Hind under Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind New Delhi said.
Earlier, there were reports of moon sighting in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu. Based on these reports, Moon Sighting Committees in Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka had initially announced August 22, 2018 as the first day of Eid al Adha.
"Eid al Adha will be celebrated in India on Wednesday August 22, 2018", Azeemullah Siddiqi Qasmi, Media Incharge Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, said while talking to ummid.com on phone. He said the decision is taken relying on the moon sighting reports from Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Tamil nadu.
"Eid al Adha will be celebrated on Wednesday August 22, 2018", Shaikh Hafiz Abdul Wahid Umari Madani, Ameer Shehri Jamiath Ahle Hadees Chennai, said in a statement. He said the announcement is made on the basis of moon sighting report in Madurai, Tamil Nadu.
10:15 pm (IST) The Moon Sighting Committees in New Delhi, Mumbai, Lucknow, Patna and Kolkata to decide the first day of Eid al Adha 2018 is still underway, according to the latest update.
But, there are reports of moon sighting in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu. Based on these reports, Moon Sighting Committees in Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka have announced August 22, 2018 as the first day of Eid al Adha.

Following the announcement made by moon sighting committees in Tamil Nadu and Pondichery, Markazi Ruyath-e-Hilal Committee Karnataka has also declared August 22, 2018 as the first day of Eid al Adha.
However, moon sighting committees in New Delhi and other parts of the country are still meeting. A fromal announcement about when Eid al Adha will be celebrated in India is expected shortly.
"The moon sighting committee meeting is underway. A decision will be taken shortly", Markazi Ruyate Hilal Committee Jamiat Ulema Delhi said.
Meanwhile, Syed Ahmed Bukhari of Jama Masjid Delhi has announced that there is no report of moon sighting today on Sunday.

Accordingly, Eid al Adha will be celebrated in Pakistan on Wednesday August 22, 2018, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced on Monday.
The announcement was made after a meeting of the six-member committee of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
National Moon Sighting Committee Bangladesh has already confirmed Dhul Hijjah moon sighting today and declared August 22, 2018 as the first day of Eid al Adha.

Eid al Adha - the second holiest festival of Muslims around the world also coincides with annual Hajj ritual i.e. pilgrimage to Makkah. The Dhul Hijjah moon if sighted today will also decide when Hajj 2018 i.e. Youm e Arafat 2018 (Youme Arafah) will be obsereved.
A decision by the moon sighting committees can be delayed because most parts of the Indian sub-continent are cloudy and under this climate the moon sighting confirmation is difficult.
If the new moon is sighted in India, Pakistan and Bangaldesh today on Sunday August 12, 2018, then Muslims in these countries will celebrate Eid al Adha (also called as Eid ul Azha or Bakra Eid) on Wednesday August 22, 2018.
Saudi Arabia and other Arab states have already declared that Eid al Adha 2018 in these countries will be celebrated on August 21, 2018. The announcement was made after Saudi Royal Court confirmed sighting of Dhul Hijjah moon on Saturday August 11, 2018.
Youm-e-Arafah (Arafat Day), also called as Youm-ul-Hajj, is on the 9th day of Dhul Hijjah whereas Eid al Adha is observed a day later i.e. on 10th day of Dhul Hijjah.
Muslims in Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Oman, Kuwait, Iraq, Palestine, Syria, Russia, United States, Britain and other countries has also decided that Eid al Adha 2018 will be celebrated in these countries on August 21, 2018. Muslims in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Australia and other nearby countries however have announced Eid al Adha celebration on August 22, 2018, according to local media reports.
Haj and Eid al Adha ( also known as Bakra Eid, Eid ul Azha and Eid uz Zuha in the Indian subcontinent) are celebrated to commemorate the sacrifices made by Prophet Ibrahim, his noble wife Hager and their son Prophet Ismael (peace be upon all of them).
Eid al Adha is celebrated all around the world on 10th of Dhul Hijjah - the month revered as one of the holiest month is the Islamic calendar.
Traditionally, the festival lasts for four days but public holidays vary from country to country. While Muslims in Bangladesh, Pakistan and Middle East observe a longer holiday to celebrate Eid al Adha, elsewhere in the world, including India, government announces at least a day off, on this day. Banks, schools, colleges, government offices and other institutions are closed on public holidays.
Decision on Muslim festivals Eid al Fitr and Eid al Adha is based on lunar system. As per this system, the first day of a new month is decided if moon is sighted on 29th day of the preceding month.
