Mumbai: Maharashtra State Haj Committee completed the Computerised Qurrah or Draw of Lots to prepare the final list of pilgrims from the state who will perform Haj in 2018.
The Haj Qurrah or Draw for Maharashtra Haj pilgrims were held at Haj House in Mumbai at 11:00 am on Thursday i.e. January 11, 2018.
The Maharashtra Haj Committee based on the population of Muslims in the state has a quota of 11,527 pilgrims but it had received 43,779 applications - 32,252 more than the allotted quota.
Till last year, Maharashtra had a quota of 9,780 pilgrims and it had received 57,259 applications in 2017.
Before the Qurah/Draw of Lots, it was decided by the Maharashtra Haj Committee to directly select the 1,939 pilgrims of above 70 years of age and 16 women who had applied to go for Haj without Mahram.
The Ha quota of Maharshtra increased because of the additional quota of 5000 allotted to India by Saudi Arabua in 2018.
Maharashtra State Haj Commitee Chairman Ibrahim Bhai Jaan, Minister of Minority Departmen Dileep Kamble and others were present when the Qurah or Draw of Lots of the Haj pilgrims was held.
The Haj Qurrah in Maharashtra was scheduled to be held at 11:00 am. But, it started at 01:00 pm because minister Kamlble came late.
The Haj Qurrah process started district wise. The first Haj pilgrim whose name appeared on the computer screen was Farooq Sattar having cover number MHF 2-25580 from Ahmednagar.
After the Draw by the Maharashtra Haj Committee the list of pilgrims going to Haj from Mumbai, Nashik, Malegaon, Aurangabad, Nagpur, Pune and other state districts and cities are now final. Those who had applied for this year's haj can check their status by following the steps as explained below.

Follow the following steps to check if your name is in the Final or Waiting List released by the Maharashtra State Haj Committee.
- Go to Haj Committee of India website by clicking here hajcommittee.gove.in
- Brwose to the bottom of home page and look for the area similar to the one shown below
- Enter your Cover No in the box. Your Cover No should start with your state code.
- Click on the Down Arraow from 'Select State' menu and select your state
- Enter Passport No in the box
- Click on "Load" button
- Your application status shoul appear on the computer or mobile phone screen
Reports coming from Kerala State Haj Committee, Andhra Pradesh Haj Committee, Telangana State Haj Committee, Jammu and Kashmir Haj Committee, Rajasthan State Haj Committee, Gujarat State Haj Committee, Karnataka Haj Committee, Uttar Pradesh State Haj Committee and other states said they will complete the Haj Qurrah in the next few days - possibly before the end of the January second week.
The Haj Committee of India had earlier begun receiving Haj Application Form from November 15, 2017. The last date was initially set as December 07. It was later extended to December 22.
This is the first time women pilgrims will perform Haj without Mehram - male guardian. The move has been possible after the Saudi Government amended the norms for issuing visa to women pilgrims. Earlier the Saudi Haj Ministry was issuing visa to women pilgrims only when they were accompanied by male guardian.
However according to the new rule, women haj pilgrims if they are above 45 years of age and are applying in a group of 4-5, they will be issued visa in the absence of mehram.
Some 1300 women from India have applied this year with a request to perform Haj without mehram or male guardian.
According to Haj 2018 plan, the first Haj Charter flight will depart from India on July 07, 2018 whereas the first inbound flight from Saudi Arabia to India will be August 24, 2018. "Detailed Haj flight schedule will be released later on", the Haj Committee of India said.
The 2018 Haj Action Plan, and all dates and schedule have been decided keeping in mind the Youme Arafa 2018 - Arafat Day 2018 or the Haj Day 2018 on August 20, 2018 (tentative).
The Haj Committee of India has also enabled the link for the applicants to check Cover Number for Haj 2018.
There are two options to check cover number. One is by entering Passport Number and the other is directly entering Haj Cover Number received while submitting the application to confirm registration.
Haj Cover Number is important as all communications, Haj Draw or Qurrah and Hajj accommodation and travel arrangements are made using Cover Number as reference.
Applicants should note that Hajj 2018 Flight Schedule from all embarkation points will be released by the Haj Committee of India only after the process of the Haj Qurrah is completed.
India has been allocated based on population of Muslims in the country a Haj quota of around 1.70 lakh by Saudi Government. Out of them, pilgrims numbering 70% of the total quota will go through the Haj Committee of India, rest all opt for Private Tour Operators (PTOs) to travel to Makkah and perform Haj.
The Qurrah or Draw is held because of number of application received by the Haj Committee of India exceeds the allotted quota.
Meanwhile, the Saudi Haj Authorities have increased India's quota by 5000. Last year a total of 170,025 pilgrims from India had performed haj. This year a total of 175,025 pilgrims will go to Makkah. The increase in quota has been conditional.
