Mumbai: Ramadan - the Holy Month of fasting, this year is hottest across Middle East, and in India, Pakistan and other countries in the subcontinent, and in terms of number of hours, it is longest in Iceland and Greenland.
The United Arab Emirate (UAE) recorded the hottest days of this season last week. According to National Centre of Meteorology, UAE the maximum temperature last Tuesday was 45.5 degree Celsius in the Mezaira area of UAE. On the other hand, Makkah and Madina - the two holy cities in Saudi Arabia sizzled at 42 degree Celsius Friday. Saudi capital a maximum temperature of 40 degrees and Dubai registered 39 degrees on Friday.
In terms of number of hours, Muslims in the Middle East are fasting for a maximum of 15 hours and 31 minute in Iraq and 14 hours 49 minutes in Saudi Arabia to 14 hours 11 minutes in Yemen. Muslims in Kuwait are fasting for 15 hours 12 minute, in UAE the fasting hours are 14 hours 51 minutes whereas in Egypt it is 15 hours 30 minutes and in Jordan and Palestine 15 hours 20 minutes. Muslims in Turkey however are fasting a bit longer - 16 hours 18 minutes.
Similarly, Muslims in Algeria are fasting for 16 hours 04 minutes, in Chad for 14 hours, in Libya for 15 hours and 36 minutes and in Sudan for 14 hours 16 minutes.

In India according to the local Meteorological Department (IMD), this year’s summer season is warmer than that of 1985. Malegaon and Ahmednagar continue to be the warmest cities in Maharashtra with Malegaon recording a temperature of 44 degree Celsius on Thursday - the first day of Ramadan. Temperatures soared above the 40-degree mark in most parts of Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. Heat wave has gripped parts of Vidarbha, Marathwada, Gujarat, and Rajasthan during the last 24 hours.
In neighboring Pakistan, Lahore sizzled at 42 degrees on Friday, though capital Islamabad and Karachi were little bit cooler recording 38-39 degrees on Friday. Textile city Faisalabad however recorded a maximum temperature of 43 degree Celsius on Friday.
Fasting hours in India is ranging from 15 hours 50 minutes to 15 hours 05 minutes. Fasting hours in Pakistan an average is 15 hours 31 minutes. In Bangladesh, Muslims are fasting for 14 hours 42 minutes. Bangladesh capital Dhaka remains cloudy recording a maximum temperature of 31 degrees on Friday.
Maximum temperature recorded in Jakarta, Indonesia was 32 degrees. Fasting hours in Jakarta is 13 hours 12 minutes. Similarly, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where fasting hours is 13 hours 27 minutes, was at 33 degrees on Friday.
Similarly, Muslims in the United States and also in Canada are fasting for 16-17 hours. Fasting hours is also longest in China where Muslims are fasting for 16 hours 14 minutes. The United States, Canada and China however are cooler as compared to India and the Middle East.
In Azerbaijan Muslims are fasting for 16 hours 21 minutes, in Sweden fasting hours are 18 hours 09 minutes. In Germany and Netherlands also Muslims are fasting for more than 18 hours. In Norway the fasting hours are 19 hours 16 minutes.
But, the fasting hour of 20 hours and 13 minutes in Iceland is the longest this Ramadan. Though longest in terms of fasting hours, Iceland is the coolest as the maximum temperature recorded here on Friday was just 08 degrees.
In Australia and New Zealand fasting hours is as an average 11 hours 43 minutes. However, Muslims in Argentina are set for a shorter fast at 11 hours. The three countries are considerably cooler as compared to other parts of the world during this Ramadan. While Wellington, New Zealand recorded a maximum temperature of 13 degrees on Friday, Sydney in Australia saw a maximum temperature of 20 degree Celsius.
