Malegaon Coronavirus Latest Update: Nashik District Disaster Management Authority Sunday appointed Dr Pankaj Ashiya (IAS) as Special Monitoring Officer in Malegaon - the popular Textile City, where Coronavirus (Covid-19) cases are increasing with alarming pace.
"Considering the specific geographical condition and the structure of Malegaon, the spread of the Coronavirus infection must be urgently controlled", Nashik District Collector and Chairman District Diasaster Management Authority Suraj Mandhare said in the appointment order issued Sunday April 12, 2020.
"For this purpose, the order has been issued to appoint Dr Pankaj Ashiya (IAS) as Special Monitoring Officer in Malegaon", he added.
"Dr Pankaj Ashiya will be incharge of Malegaon Emergency Operation Centre established after the Coronavirus Outbreak in the City on Thursday", the order issued by Suraj Mandhare said.
Malegaon has reported 29 Coronavirus positive cases, including 02 deaths, since Thursday April 9 when the coronavirus cases were detected in the city.
The city reported as many as 18 cases in the last 24 hours.
A distinguished IAS officer of Maharashtra cadre, Dr Pankaj Ashiya had cracked the UPSC Civil Services exams in 2015 securing an impressive rank of 29. He had scored a total of 960 marks - 770 in IAS Civil Services Main and 275 in Personal Interview.
Dr Pankaj Ashiya is originally from Jodhpur, Rajasthan.
In 2018, Dr Pankaj Ashiya was appointed as Assisant Secretary at NITI Aayog (the erstwhile Planning Commission of India), after completion of Phase II training on Central Deputation.
Before appearing for the Civil Services Exams, Dr Pankaj Ashiya had completed MBBS from NIMS Medical College Jaipur in 2012. His father is also a doctor and had worked as Senior Medical Officer at Satellite Hospital Jaipur. His elder brother Mohit Ashiya is also a practicing doctor.
Dr Pankaj Ashiya had appeared for the Civil Services exams for the first time in 2013 and had cracked the important exam in his first attempt. He however reappeared for the IAS exams to improve his rank.
