New Delhi: There are five Muslims in the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) list of candidates released Tuesday for the February 2020 Assembly Elections in Delhi.
All the five Muslim candidates who have been given AAP ticket will contest the 2020 Delhi state election from the Muslim dominated areas.
The five Muslim candidates contesing on AAP symbol are Shoaib Iqbal, Imran Hussain, Amantullah Khan, Abdul Rehman and Haji Yunus.
While Shoai Iqbal will contest from Matia Mahal assembly seat, Imran Hussain and Amantullah Khan will contest the 2020 Delhi elections from Ballimaran and Okhla respectively.
Abdul Rehman will contest the Delhi state polls from the Muslim majority Seelampur and Haji Yunus will fight from Mustafabad.
Imran Hussain and Amantullah Khan are sitting MLAs from the seats they are contesting the 2020 polls.
Shoaib Iqbal - five-time MLA from Matia Mahal, had contested the 2015 Delhi election as Congress candidate. He however was defeated by Asim Ahmed Khan of AAP.
On the other hand, the Muslim dominated Mustafabad assembly seat is at present represented by Jagdish Pradhan of BJP.
Seelampur is currently represently by Mohd Ishaque of AAP. However, AAP has fielded Abdul Rehman from this seat.
The Aam Aadmi Party on Tuesday announced the list of all 70 candidates for the February 8 Delhi Assembly elections, with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal contesting again from New Delhi seat and his deputy Manish Sisodia again in the fray from Patparganj.
The party has dropped 15 of its sitting MLAs and added 24 new faces in total, including unsuccessful 2019 Lok Sabha candidates Atishi, Dilip Pandey and Raghav Chadha.
All the ministers, including Sisodia, are also re-contesting from their respective seats as well as Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goyal (Shahdara) and Deputy Speaker Rakhi Birla (Mangol Puri).
Eight women candidates have been given the opportunity in the list released by the AAP's Political Affairs Committee.
