Mumbai: US Special Envoy to the Organization of the Islamic Conference Rashad Hussain will address the media and Rizvi College students during his visit to Mumbai on August 3.

"His address to the media and students will focus on his objectives and priority areas as Special Envoy, including education, global health, combating violent extremism, and entrepreneurship", says the American Center in Mumbai.

Rashad Hussain, who is on a week-long visit to India from August 1 to 9, will address the media and the students at Rizvi College of Architecture in Mumbai suburbs.

During his stay in the country Rashad is also visiting Aligarh, Hyderabad, New Delhi and Patna, where he will meet with local university faculty and students, Muslim leaders, and government officials.

Son of an Indian migrant couple from Bihar, Rashad Hussain was named as Special Envoy to the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) on February 13, 2010.

As special envoy Hussain, both a Quran scholar and an ardent North Carolina Tar Heels basketball fan, is charged with helping to bridge the cultural divide in US relations with Muslims inside and outside America's borders as part of President Barack Obama's new approach to engage the Islamic world. India has the world's second largest Muslim population after Indonesia.

Hussain's father, a mining engineer, moved from Bihar to Wyoming in the late 1960s. A few years later, during a visit to India, he married Hussain's mother, now an obstetrician in Plano.

After the 2008 election, Hussain was recruited to the White House counsel's office where he has worked on national security and new media issues, and helped inform the administration's Muslim outreach efforts.

Rashad's visit to India is part of 'The Obama Administration’s Outreach to the Muslim World' that began with the Cairo Speech by US President Obama last year. Rashad's visit to India follows similar visit made by Ms. Farha Pandit - Obama's Special Representative to the Muslim Community February this year.
