Kollam (Kerala):
Ending the eight-day long suspense, PDP leader Abdul Nasser Madani
was today arrested amid high drama from his camp here by the
Karnataka Police in connection with the 2008 Bangalore blast case.
Hours before the deadline set by the Bangalore court was to expire,
a Karnataka Police team executed the non-bailable arrest warrant as
Madani emerged from his orphanage-cum-madrassa complex at
Anwarassery at Kollam.
Bangalore Deputy Commissioner of Police Omkarayya executed the
warrant against Madani with the support of Kerala police shortly
after he said he would be surrendering in a local magistrate's
court.
Madani was taken to Thiruvananthapuram en route to Bangalore by air
so that he could be produced before the Metropolitan Magistrate this
evening.
Addressing media earlier in the day, Madani said he was being
falsely implicated in the case.
"When I read about the warrant in papers, I spoke to my lawyers.
This is a conspiracy against me. I approached the court for bail,"
said Madani.
'No anticipatory
bail'
The Supreme Court rejected the
anticipatory bail plea submitted by Abdunnasir Madani, accused in
the Bangalore blast case, citing that it was not possible now as he
was already arrested. The SC added that Madani could apply for bail
in the court where hearing would be held. Madani also could inform
the court if he had any health problems.
Meanwhile, the PDP has called for observing a black day tomorrow in
the state in protest against the arrest of Madani. The party has
also called for hartal in Kannur and Kasargod districts.
