Aligarh:
Students of the Aligarh Muslim University ended their 78-day long
agitation late Sunday after the vice-chancellor gave them an
assurance that students union polls would be held in January.
"In a meeting between 14 students and the university
administration...it was resolved that election process of the AMU
Students' Union will be started from 3rd January 2011, as already
announced," a statement Monday by the office of Vice Chancellor
P.K. Abdul Azis said.
"The election of the students' union shall be held as per Lyngdoh
Committee recommendations and the Supreme Court's order in letter
and spirit," it added.
The suspension order of five students involved in the sit-in
agitation for the polls was also revoked, the statement added.
