Kampala
(Uganda): Members of the Muslim community in Uganda
have revealed plans of carrying out an independent population
census in the near future.
Speaking at the Gadhafi mosque in
Kampala December 28, the Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan
Mubajje said that the unclear statistics about their population
has created confusion and affected effective planning for their
community.
Mubajje says the latest statistics from the Ugandan Bureau of
Statistics indicate a significant decline in the population growth
rate of the country's Muslim community.
Mubaje says such figures are meant to depict a wrong picture of
the Muslims and deny them a share of the national cake.
He has also challenged all candidates vying for the political
positions to consider promoting Islamic values at all levels of
leadership.
