Bhopal: Quite a sensation has been caused in Sagar town, about 120 kms from Madhya Pradesh state capital Bhopal, after a Bharatiya Janata Party, (BJP), leader shot dead a municipal councilor in broad day light in Kotwali police area. The gory incident has created tension in the town.

Senior police officers on learning about the incident reached on the spot with a large posse of police force. After the incident, the BJP leaders flocked the District Hospital where the victim was taken.

According to Sagar Superintendent of Police VK Suryavanshi a newly elected Tilganj Ward independent councilor Subhash Goshi was shot by BJP leader Khoobsingh Thakur alias Fauji. Goshi was immediately rushed to the District hospital by local residents for treatment where the doctors declared him brought dead.

On receiving information, police arrived at the scene of the incident and recovered two twelve-bore cartridges from the site.

Reports reaching here said that after shooting down Goshi accused Khoobsingh Thakur fled the scene seeing swelling crowd and hordes of policemen and shut himself inside his house nearby. When realty dawned upon him and saw his house being encircled by policemen he started challenging them. Fearing Thakur may be in possession of firearms and bombs police is treading cautiously to nab him. The cause of the incident could not be ascertained.

After receiving news of Subhash Goshi's death former Sagar Mayor Pradeep Laria, senior BJP leader Rajendra Singh along with hundreds of BJP workers converged on the hospital.

It is said that Goshi was in BJP but the party denied him ticket for the recently held municipal elections. He rebelled from BJP and contested the civic polls as an independent candidate and emerged victorious.

It is learnt that accused Thakur is a dismissed jawan (soldier) from the Indian Army is an active BJP worker and district president of BJP's defense cell. According to the Kotwali police station in-charge JS Parihar there is no record of any old enmity between victim Goshi and the accused Thakur. The reason may be political rivalry between the two.
