NIA begin investigation into Modasa bomb blast

Ahmedabad: A team of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrived in Modasa town of Sabarkantha district to investigate into the 2008 blast that killed one person and injured 10 others, police said today.
"The NIA team came to Modasa yesterday and started investigating into the Modasa blast case of 2008," Sabarkantha Superintendent of Police R B Bhrambhatt told PTI.
"They are doing preliminary investigation into the case," he said, adding that the NIA team has not contacted them yet.
After the NIA found links between Modasa blast and some of the cases it was investigating, the Union government had ordered that case be handed over to the probe agency.
In the evening of September 29, 2008, a low intensity blast in the Suka Bazar area had killed a 15-year-old boy and injured 10 people.
The Modasa blast coincided with similar blasts that occurred the same evening of Ramazan in Malegaon. Terrorists belonging to right-wing Hindu outfits were arrested after slain ATS Chief Hemant Karkare unearthed the hitherto hidden face of Hindu terrorism.
Later, following the leads into the investigations of Malegaon blast carried by Hemant Karkare who was killed in Mumbai terror attack on November 26, National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Rajasthan ATS reportedly found the Hindu terrorists linked in Makkah Masjid and Ajmer blasts also.
