Chennai Higher Secondary Schools record best performance

Husna Fathima top in Muslim run schools

Chennai: The Corporation of Chennai held a victory lap of sorts just hours after the Class XII results were published even as a girl student topped the schools run by Muslim managements.

The 27 Chennai Higher Secondary Schools recorded their best performance in the 322-year Corporation history. The overall pass percentage for Chennai Schools was 84.8 per cent, up by six per cent from last year.

 

Husna Fathima of Hasnath Jaria Girls’ Higher Secondary School (English medium) in Ambur has topped entire Tamil Nadu state Muslim schools in the Higher Secondary Examination 2009-2010. According to the results announced today, Fathima scored 1159 marks out of 1200. She will opt for information technology.

The Chennai High School in Virugambakkam registered a pass rate of 98.5 per cent, the highest ever for any school run by the Corporation.

Close on heels are the schools in G Koil and Koyambedu, both with 96.7 per cent. The Nesapakkam School topped the table with three centums, while the M H Road Chennai High School clocked 33 scores above 1,000, the highest across the city. The Alwarpet School came in last with only 63.3 per cent of its students passing the examinations.While matching last year’s tally of 11 centums, the absence of at least one maximum score in Mathematics or any of the Sciences was conspicuous.

Chennai district toppers with Tamil as their first language are as follows.

Shruthee S G of DAV Gopalapuram (1182 marks), Aadhitya Raman V S of DAV Matric HSS, Choolaimedu (1,177) and Padmini R of Agarwal Vidyalaya Matric HSS, Vepery (1,177) and Aishwarya T K of DAV HSS, Gopalapuram (1,176) and Shanaz Fathima H A of CSI Bain HSS, Kilpauk (1,176).

 

Toppers who have other languages as first languages are Anu Asaithambi of DAV HSS, Gopalapuram (1,188), Pradeep Raaja S of DAV Matric HSS, Choolaimedu (1,187) and Sharini V of DAV HSS, Gopalapuram (1,187) and Nitin Santosh, DAV Matric HSS, Choolaimedu (1,186).

V Pandiyarajan of the Chennai Higher Secondary School (CHSS), Virugambakkam scored 1,130 marks — the top score from among all the schools run by Corporation. Short of just one mark from top score, S H Jasmine of CHSS, Maduvinkarai, came second. Third rank S K Pavitra has her eyes set on the MIT, Chromepet.
 

Sarvath Naveen of the same school has got 1139 out of 1200 marks and has got third rank in the state from Zoology stream. She wants to pursue MBBS.

Mazhar-ul-Uloom and Hasnath Jaria Girls’ Higher Secondary School in Ambur are managed by Ambur Muslims’ Educational Association. Nattamkar Zakria holds the position of president and Nathersa Mohamad Sayeed acts as secretary.
