Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee will lay the foundation
stone of the Aligarh Muslim University’s Murshidabad Centre, West
Bengal November 20, 2010 at 11:30 am, AMU officials informed in a
statement released today.
"With the foundation stone ceremony
on November 20, decks will be cleared for the Aligarh Muslim
University (AMU) to establish its first Centre at Murshidabad, 182
kilometers away from the Kolkata with a 300 acres of land", the
official statement said.
The proposed centre will cater to the educational and training
requirements of oyuth of most economically and educationally
backward Muslim minority community to the country, it added.
Moreover, the statement said, the center will focus on minority
education, women’s education, technical education, vocational
education, medical, nursing, management etc.
It is also envisaged that the specific character of the centre
should be to promote capacity building and competence in youth
from the backward Muslim community to participate in education,
training and research. The Centre will provide access to 11,040
students by the end of XII Plan.
The AMU Centre at Murshidabad will offer programmes in MBA and
BALLB courses from this year and by 2015 the total campus should
be developed.
Budhadeb Bhattachatjee, Chief
Minister of West Bengal will preside over the Foundation Stone
Laying Ceremony. Pawan Kumar Bansal, Minister of parliamentary
affairs and Water resource, Government of India and Mrs. D.
Purandeswari, Union Minister of State, Human Resource Development
will be the Guests of Honour.
Vice Chancellor, Aligarh Muslim
University, Prof. P.K. Abdul Azis will present the report and
highlight the importance of the Centre.
Anisur Rahman, Minister Panchayat and Rural Development,
Government of West Bengal, Mrs. Purnima Das, Sabhadipati,
Murshdabad Zila Parishad, Adhir Ranjan Choudhuri, MP (Lok Sabha),
Mannan Hossain, MP (Lok Sabha), Jaane Alam Mia, MLA, Suti,
Murshidabad, West Bengal, Kashindra Yadav, General Manager,
Farakka Barrage Project, Moinul Hasan, Member, AMU Court will be
the guests of honour.
