Curfew relaxed in violence-hit Ratlam

Tuesday, September 07, 2010 01:36:53 PM, PTI

Ratlam (MP): Situation in the curfew-bound areas which witnessed communal violence here is fast returning to normal with the district administration on September 06 relaxing the restrictions for two hours in phases.

The curfew was relaxed from 8 am to 10 am and 12 pm to 2 pm in the violence-hit Station Area and Manak Chowk.

No untoward incident was reported during the relaxation period, Ratlam Collector Rajendra Sharma told reporters.

Communal tension had prevailed in the two localities after a religious place was allegedly defiled, prompting the authorities to clamp curfew on September 4.

Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Uma Shankar Gupta visited the affected areas and assured the people that those responsible for the incident and subsequent arson would not be spared.

He directed the district administration to intensify police vigil. Gupta praised the local police for taking prompt action and preventing the situation from flaring-up.
