Municipal corporator caught stealing car tyre, goes underground

Thursday April 14, 2011 07:53:35 PM, ummid.com Staff Reporter

Malegaon: A senior corporator and former deputy mayor of Malegaon Municipal Corporation (MMC) who was caught red-handed stealing wheel tyre from the government owned ambassador car goes underground even as the pressure demanding action against him builds up on his party chief and Municipal Commissioner.

Though the incident occurred inside the government owned Wadia Hospital compound on April 01, it came to the limelight only after more than a week.

Ab Rasheed Yeolewala, a senior corporator belonging to the ruling Teesra Mahaz and former deputy mayor of Malegaon Municipal Corporation (MMC) on April 01, 2011 in the night was stealing the wheel tyre from the ambassador car owned by Malegaon Municipal Corporation (MMC).

"He was caught red-handed by local activists and few other corporators when he with the help of few other people was fitting the stolen tyre in his own ambassador car", one of the eyewitnesses said to ummid.com.

After the incident hit the headlines few days back, the Municipal Commission Jeevan Sonawane lodged the complaint with the Qila police station where the investigation is underway.

"We are investigating the matter and interrogations of garage in-charge Iqbal Ah and ward-boy of Wadia Hospital Mukhtar Baig have already been done", constable Jagtap said to the media April 13.

Meanwhile, the pressure is building up on Chief of the Teesra Mahaz and local MLA Mufti Mohd Ismail for immediate action against Rasheed Yeolewala. The angry people belonging to ward no 44, from where Yeolewala had won the civic elections, are running a campaign against him and demand from Mufti Ismael to sack him immediately. They have also painted slogans on roads against Yeolewala.

Following the intense pressure from the people of the ward, Mufti Ismael issued a show-cause notice to Yeolewala who is said to be untraceable ever since the matter hit the media.
