New Delhi: The
National Museum Institute may be deemed a cultural university by the
central government to promote academic research and study of Indian
culture and heritage, an official said.
The proposal is in the final stage of consideration by the
department of higher education under the ministry of human resources
led by Kapil Sibal, administrator of the National Museum C.V. Ananda
Bose told IANS.
The university will help promote the study of Indian cultures, its
plurality and rich heritage, said Bose, a 1977-batch Indian
Administrative Service (IAS) officer, scholar and writer.
"The National Museum Institute already has the basic infrastructure
to be expanded into a cultural university," he said.
The National Museum Institute offers post-graduate courses in
conservation and museology and doctoral courses in history of art,
conservation, museology. Besides the regular modules, it offers
three five-month programmes in Indian art and culture, and art
appreciation. It plans to introduce two new modules from this
session.
