Mumbai:
Though there are known differences among the Muslim leaders,
activists and organisations on extending support to Anna Hazare's
crusade against corruption because of the allegations that the
movement is backed by BJP and RSS, the Muslim community and
organisations as such are coming strongly in favour of the
campaign.
The political wing of
Jamaat-e-Islami, Welfare Party of India (WPI) supported a strong
Lokpal for curbing the corruption.
"This is a fact that the Lokpal bill
presented by the UPA government is toothless. It has to be strong
and Anna's model may be adopted," said spokesperson, WPI, SQR
Ilyas.
Darul Uloom Islamic educational
institution calls Hazare’s movement non-political which is
required for the national interest.
Maulana Abul Qasim Banarasi,
Vice-Chancellor, Darul Uloom at Deoband said, “A concrete action
against corruption is earnestly needed. We have no business with
politics. We cannot participate in the movement nor can we stage
protest, but we do support Anna’s movement.”
Moulana Mohammed Islam Qasimi, a
member of All India Muslim Personal Law Board, said it is the duty
of every Indian to support the movement of Anna Hazare.
Muslim Women's Personal Law Board
supports Anna as well.
The chairman of All Parties Hurriyat
Conference, Mirwaiz Omar Farooq, has extended his support to Anna
Hazare.
Meanwhile, Hazare’s anti-corruption
campaign also received support from Muslims in Madhya Pradesh.
More than 40 ‘Imams’ are planning to visit Delhi to extend support
to Hazare.
