New Delhi: Syed
Akbaruddin, a senior diplomat who has served in key capitals, will
be the next spokesperson of India's external affairs ministry.
Akbaruddin will succeed Vishnu Prakash, who was named Wednesday as
India's next ambassador to South Korea.
Akbaruddin's appointment has not been formally announced, but an
order to that effect has been issued, said official sources.
A 1985 batch Indian Foreign Service Officer, Akbaruddin has a
varied resume that includes stints as consul general in Jeddah,
Saudi Arabia and joint secretary (administration) in the external
affairs ministry.
The 51-year-old diplomat has also served in India's Permanent
Mission in New York and in Indian missions in Cairo, Riyadh and
Islamabad.
In 2006, he was sent on deputation to the Vienna-based
International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
